Did you know that post-secondary students with disabilities experience greater difficulties with gaining employment in comparison to their peers and typically have higher unemployment and underemployment rates?

After three years of dedication, the Youth Leadership Initiative (YLI) Team proudly presents the YLI Toolkit, a free online multimedia resource hub for youth with disabilities and employers looking to make their workplaces more inclusive and accessible. The Toolkit will offer a one-stop resource database that provides tangible solutions to many of the attitudinal barriers faced by post-secondary youth with disabilities during their employment search.

Over time, we will continue adding and updating resources as new information is found. To get people started, take a look at the resources found by the YLI team, the YLI Advisory Committee, and respondents to the YLI Questionnaire.

In the YLI study, we explored various employment challenges.

  • Low Self-Confidence
  • High Performance Expectation
  • Perceived Discrimination
  • Hesitation in Disability Disclosure
  • Lack of Workplace Accommodation

In addition to tips and guidance to the identified barriers, the YLI Toolkit will also include additional career tips carefully curated by the YLI team and a list of equitable employers.

The YLI team is passionate about workplace inclusion and accessibility! We’ve been building this resource hub for you to enjoy, learn from, and refer to when you’re looking for assistance. Most importantly, we’ve created a safe community where we can all exchange ideas and share our career journeys.
