Taking Care of Yourself: Self-Compassion for Caregivers

April 29 @ 12:00 pm 1:00 pm PDT

Join Gabi from Family Caregivers of BC on April 29th, 12-1 PM PT, for a presentation on the importance of getting support in your caregiver role.

Caregiving can be one of the most rewarding gifts you can give another person while also being emotionally and physically demanding. This webinar will touch on reflecting on your current level of self-care, using self-compassion as a practice, support networks, and dimensions of resilience.

Gabi has worked for the not-for-profit sector in human services for almost all of her career. Before retiring, she was a Support and Education Coordinator with the Alzheimer Society of BC. There, Gabi worked firsthand with families caring for a person with dementia, supporting them as they supported their family member or friend.

Then, she was on the dementia journey with her mom, helping her dad do the intensive day-to-day caregiving while loving and grieving at the same time. She brings that professional and personal perspective on the caregiving role to her work as a volunteer support group facilitator and presenter with the Family Caregivers of BC.

Now, she fills her retirement days by being engaged with several other community organizations, including the BC Community Response Network and Self-Management BC, hoping to defy the stereotypes around ageing by example.
