The Power of Playfulness
August 19 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm PDT
Join Laen Hershler from Theatre Terrific on August 19th, 12 – 1 PM PT, for a presentation on “The Power of Playfulness.” We will explore how play is not just for children but an essential building block for living artfully and fully. This session will also serve as an introduction to the classes we offer at Theatre Terrific, where participants of all abilities can experience the joy and benefits of artful play.
Laen Hershler is a second-generation Jewish settler in Vancouver who grew up attuned to the rhythms of the stal̕əw̓ (Fraser River) and the dense forests of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) people. Laen’s work is deeply influenced by his years in collective creation, forum theatre, and playback theatre. A proponent of radically inclusive practices, he views theatre not merely as entertainment but as a potent force for social change and understanding. He has been a recurring sessional instructor at UBC, teaching performance and theatre education since 2011. Laen is currently the artistic director at Theatre Terrific, a Vancouver-based all abilities theatre company.

Staff, volunteers, and clients are part of a team and expected to conduct themselves in a respectful manner. This means that physical harm, verbal or written abuse, harassment of any kind, and any bullying behaviour will not be tolerated. Anyone found to have committed conduct prohibited by the societies is subject to disciplinary actions as deemed fit by the Executive Director, up to and including removal from the programs.
